Join hundreds of anglers and snowmobile enthusiasts at the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber's 15th Annual Ice Fishing Contest and Scorpion Homecoming on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 12 to 3 p.m. on Serpent Lake near Crosby’s Memorial Park.
The tournament boasts more than $1,000 in prizes for lucky or skilled anglers and prizes are awarded to fish of all sizes during the three-hour contest. Entry tickets are $10 for each hole and include the chance to win five raffle prizes. Prizes include an Ice Runner Explorer Insulated Flip-over Fish house, Marcum VS485c underwater camera, Eskimo F1 Rocket 8” ice auger, Marcum M1 Flasher and Grand Casino Mille Lacs one-night stay and $30 in food credit. In addition, food and beverages will be sold in an ice-arming tent and there will be a raffle for numerous other prizes donated by the community.
Scorpion Homecoming dusts off wonderful old machines and recalls a time when the Cuyuna Lakes was among the largest snowmobile producers in the world. Numerous snowmobiles will be on display and races are planned. The 2019 featured sled is the Scorpion Stingerette, the industry’s first-ever snowmobile specifically designed for women. The Scorpion Stingerette featured easy-starting displacements and a hot pink color scheme affectionately labeled "Gleaming Midnight Sun Magenta." All model years (1972-1974) and engine sizes will be featured at the Homecoming, both original and restored, including both the standard Stingerette as well as the Super Stingerette. Special Stingerette commemorative buttons and other Scorpion memorabilia will be sold at the tournament’s ice-warming tent.
New this year, to initiate the onset of the ice fishing contest, the Crosby-Ironton Chamber singers will perform the National Anthem on the ice, while being accompanied by the Ironton American Legion Color Guard. All proceeds from the tournament and Scorpion merchandise sales benefit the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber and will be used for marketing to attract visitors to the area.
